Foundation Skills (Writing Skills)
After the successful completion of the programme, the student will receive a certificate (NQF level 5) issued and endorsed by the UFS. Recognition to the Higher Certificate in Management Development is available.
This course offers you an online opportunity of acquiring the academic literacy skills you need to access your studies. The mastery of these skills (writing skills) will assist you across all your subjects and are regarded as life skills. These skills are usually taught within an interactive classroom situation where feedback is immediate. Thus, although this is not a course where you write an official examination, you are required to work through the activities provided and complete the assignment
One of the biggest problems that students encounter when they register for academic study is the reading of their academic texts in English and writing their assignments in English which, for many, is a second language.
In this programme participants will learn to:
- Structure a reading effort and read with comprehension.
- Structure the writing of an assignment or report appropriately.
- Appropriately apply punctuation and referencing of sources.
- The SQ3R Academic Reading Method
- Writing Workshop
